A Modern Day Lament - Psalm 13

v1 How long, Lord?
Will you forget me forever?
How long will you hide your face from me?
v2 How long must I wrestle with my thoughts and day after day have sorrow in my heart?
How long will my enemy triumph over me?

How long, God?
Hasn't this been long enough?
How long will we ask "where is God?" because you seem silent?
This brokenness rips apart our faith.

Haven't we witnessed hate, anger, violence and racism for long enough?
We have watched our brothers and sisters crushed down.
We have felt it and we have seen it.
Please, make it stop.

v3 Look on me and answer, Lord my God.
Give light to my eyes, or I will sleep in death,
v4 and my enemy will say, "I have overcome him,"
and my foes will rejoice when I fall.

The enemy is winning.
We have wept in corners and felt our hearts breaking.
We have turned blind eyes to brokenness in this world and within ourselves.
Deliver us. Revive us -  or we will fail.

v5 But I trust in your unfailing love;
my heart rejoices in your salvation.
v6I will sing the Lord's praise, for he has been good to me.

We throw ourselves into your embrace that will seep into our souls.
We lift our heads up and freely dance and sing at the top of our lungs;
that you are good. That you are our rescue.
